The New iPad Launch Source

The New iPad:

Naming

It’s finally here. The iPad 3, or The New iPad. Apple know that the iPad brand name is already a winner product, so adding a number to the end of their already award-winning product won’t help them with sales. This is refreshing as most companies go the other way. Android phones are a good example of poor marketing in terms of naming. The Droid Lightning Bolt III as an exaggerated example. Apple are playing it safe by taking an already brilliant product and making it better.

Screen

It now has the same pixel density as the iPhone 4/4S, which is definitely a good thing on something of the iPads size. The resolution is 2048×1536. Simply amazing! Apple have chosen to compare this brilliance to a HD TV that conventionally sits a few meters back from the user – a pretty poor comparison as an iPad is used an arms width away from its user therefor the resolution of the device has to be higher for user not to not notice the pixels. What they could have said is “now the iPad has a much richer display than any of our Laptops.” Apple being Apple obviously didn’t take this route.

Camera

The camera in the new iPad now looks very similar to the one you would find on your iPhone 4. Do people take photos on their iPads? hmm not so sure, still an improvement over the lousy 1MP camera that is lumped to my iPad 2.

GPU

It has a faster processor with 4 GPUs which will relate to better overall performance. The new Tegra 3 chip (made by nVidia) has 12 cores but like Apple says it isn’t a race of specs but they are clearly doing something right.
