History

As Paul Sperry watched his cocker spaniel, Prince, run across the ice on a winter’s day in Connecticut, he noticed his dog’s amazing ability to maintain traction on the slippery surface. Turning over Prince’s paw, he observed hundreds of tiny cracks and cuts going in all directions. These wave-like grooves became the inspiration for Mr. Sperry’s latest patent, called Razor-Siping™, and were instrumental in maximizing the traction and performance of the Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original first introduced in 1935. Since inventing the first boat shoe, Sperry continues to share our “Passion for the Sea” with those who enjoy the good life in, on and around the ocean. Sperry Top-Sider is a rare and unique American brand. For more than 75 years, generations have connected with us through a shared ‘Passion for the Sea’; and families have happily invited Sperry into their daily lives. Sperry’s Women Spring/Summer 2012 collection has been inspired by European and American coastal towns to develop designs that reflect the ocean, air, sun and sand.

Styles

Sperry has added a new twist on its original A/O 2-Eye collection this season, with new materials such as fish skin, washed canvas, leather and suede. Stripes, metallics and ton surton are but a few examples of how the classic A/O have been given a fresh, contemporary feel for 2012.

An exciting addition to the ladies spring/summer 12 collection is the Bluefish, one of the best selling and iconic Sperry styles in the US today. Making an introduction overseas for the first time, this popular and easily wearable style adds a preppy feel to the collection. The Bluefish is available in classic colourways of tan/tweed and black/checked combinations as well as summery sky blue featuring nautical stripes, drawing a real emphasis from Sperrys strong boating heritage.

The well known Bahama with its characteristic vulcanised sole is available in a variety of seasonal colour ways.
